Our Story

Prosami is derived from the French acronym: Promotion de la sante maternelle et infantile. This non-profit organization was registered in the commonwealth of Virginia in January 2009. It focuses on the promotion of maternal and infant health in the rural areas of the DRC. The founder, Agnes Kanyanya is a dedicated Registered nurse/ Advanced midwife and Neonatal intensive care nurse.

The story goes that her mother died during childbirth, leaving behind a one day old baby who grew up in an orphanage together with several other babies who have lost their mothers following childbirth complications. This sad experience marked her life profoundly, she was determined to join the global effort to reduce maternal and infant mortality and morbidity, and initiated this program, designed to bring a solution to the rural communities according to the rural setting.
