A brief presentation of the purpose and goals of PROSAMI.

Prosami Board Meeting April 19

PROSAMI Meeting : April 19, 2012
5:30 – 7:00 p.m.

Attending were Kim Briehl, her mother, “Happy,” Jenny Mentore, Agnes Kanyanya, Sally Williamson, Rob Williamson, Matt Shifflett, and David Strider. Minutes of previous meeting of March 15th had been reviewed and were approved.
• Agnes noted that a donor has offered to provide Prosami with up to 400 sets of King Size bed sheets, at cost price of approx.. $30 / set, with thoughts that Prosami could ask higher price,
with net proceeds going directly to PROSAMI. Each PROSAMI member was asked to find one
store in her / his respective community, that would permit the sale of such sheets for
PROSAMI fundraising, in the front of the market / store or sidewalk outside the store. Prosami member should inform Agnes of the name / location of their identified store.

• Kim Briehl recommended the Palladin film development company, who may be able to edit the
current PROSAMI film at a discount price. Kim will get estimates on such film editing for the Prosami group. Goal would be to have a 30 minute version of the PROSAMI film. David will contact Sharon Ford for possible ideas on revising the film.

• Raffle Basket is on target for ticket sales. Each Prosami member will post flyers for the sale
of Raffle tickets

David thanked all of the PROSAMI leaders for the outstanding preparation and participation by the Board , in making this dinner a unique and very inspiring event. Jenny and Agnes will get the names of those patrons who donated money, over and above the ticket cost, so that David can send them Thank You letters. Agnes will get the names of the band members, so a letter of appreciation can be sent to each one.
Sally reviewed the balance in the checking account and noted that PROSAMI is changing banks to BB & T. Agnes and Jenny discussed the feasibility of filming Agnes working with her cooking basket, making this in the format of YouTube, and uploading it onto the PROSAMI Web Site. The idea of a raffle for a Mothers Day basket is one that will be explored, with Jenny getting ideas from PROSAMI members for contents to be put in the basket.
Agnes shared with the group her invitation to serve as the keynote speaker for the Virginia WHONN organization, consisting of maternity nurses from across the state. The conference is on Saturday, April 28thand will be in Richmond.

Prosami Fundraiser Dinner

Dear PROSAMI friends:

Many, many thanks for your support of our PROSAMI fundraiser dinner on February 7, 2012. The evening was graced with 85 participants from a variety of backgrounds. We had the amazing Kim Briehl vocalist and four of her associates who provided wonderful piano, percussion, and string music. Agnes Kanyanya (our PROSAMI leader) and her family / friends provided gallons and gallons of wonderful homecooked African entrées . Many of our guests went back for seconds, and thirds!

The Raffle event and the Door prizes, organized by Katherine Kirshberger and Jenny Mentore, brought a great deal of attention. We viewed the movie on PROSAMI, which underscores the essence of our PROSAMI mission. There was lively discussion and networking throughout the evening.

Westminster Presbyterian Church was most hospitable. The Fellowship Hall and the well equipped Kitchen was perfect for this PROSAMI venue. All of our proceeds from this event are going directly to support the tuition of our nurse midwife candidates in the Kasai Oriental of the Congo.

PROSAMI is moving forward
